EX) SE) FARMING FOR THE HAWKS When the Nipawin Hawks take to the ice at Centennial Arena, they do so with the support of the entire community behind them, which includes Lake Country Co-op That's because Lake Country Co-op has made it a priority to support junior hockey in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). They invest in the future of their communities and youth. Hockey fosters a sense of teamwork, discipline and leadership, and Lake Country Co-op is proud to support suchinitiatives, These programs enrich the local culture, promote active Lifestyles and nurture the next generation of leaders and contributors to society. One of the ways Lake Country Co-op supports the Hawks is through the Farming for the Hawks project, a 14-year tradition for the team. This annual event is the true definition of community coming together. One hundred per cent of the proceeds from the grain sale go straight to the Hawks. This money is used for various projects and programs related to the team. Since the program's inception, Lake Country Co-op has donated $10,000 annually in the form of fertilizer, agronomic expertise, assistance and more. “We are community-minded, and we see there's à lot of value in supporting a project like this," said Brittney Rosenberg, Director of Marketing and Community Relations at Lake Country Co-op. “it's a great project that involves the whole community, and with our dedication to local initiatives, it empowers the community to thrive and flourish together." The harvest day was September 12, 2023, and Lake Country Co-op always hosts a barbecue for all the volunteer farmers, community members and the entire Hawks team. The farm is located northeast of Nipawin, and they usually have a great turnout of more than 80 people. Rosenberg said the event is amazing and is an opportunity for some of the team to see a farm operation up close, as not all players come from agricultural backgrounds As forthe Hawks, they are pleasedthat Lake County Co-op and many others continue to see the positive benefits of building into the lives of youth. “The Nipawin Junior A Hawks of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League are extremely fortunate to receive major support from Lake Country Co-op for our ‘Farming for the Hawks’ project. Their help has made a huge difference, and we appreciate their continued commitment every year," said Brenda Kulpa, Office Manager at Nipawin Hawks.
