With Modern Warfare II being a direct follow-up to 2019’s Modern Warfare, what did the team want to achieve this time that’s different from the previous effort? Did the team take any inspiration from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, or is this a completely fresh take? The gameplay differences of Modern Warfare II have been heavily shaped by two big things, Warzone and Water. Warzone technology allowed us to make massive open natural places in a way that the campaign team has never been able to do before. The largest environment from Modern Warfare 2019’s campaign would barely be a medium-sized map in Modern Warfare II. For example, one of our new missions started with the idea of what if we had long-range ballistic sniping, where you're picking off targets at 400- 500 metres, but then you also had the freedom to go down there and fully explore several square kilometres of that space. A second huge feature we added was drivable vehicles. | can’t wait for players to get their hands on our driving mission. It’s such a fresh, unique take on driving and shooting and one of the most technically challenging missions we’ve ever made. Another big innovation is our new water technology that allows us to add swimming, boats and maybe my favourite type of stealth kill ever, the ability to pull someone into the water and stab them underwater like the beginning of the oil rig in 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, only on a ton of enemies spread out among many docks. Zied Rieke, Gameplay Director The campaign will weave a global story focused on Task Force 141 and their allies, following the events of the previous game. Can you tell us about the campaign operators, including new trusted ally and friend Alejandro Vargas, and the mission they'll be undertaking? In Modern Warfare 2019, we spent time with Price and Gaz, allowing us to experience the beginning of their alliance and the strength that came with living through war together—leading us to the end of the game, with Price forming a group of the most elite operators, Task Force 141. In Modern Warfare II, we not only get to team up with more familiar faces, like Soap and Ghost, but we also introduce new Task Force 141 entrusted allies who are just as badass, possibly more so, with Colonel Alejandro Vargas of the Mexican Special Forces, Commander Phillip Graves of Shadow Company and others. I’ve really enjoyed how the team has breathed life into Alejandro—seeing him grow from the infancy stage of concept and scriptwriting to his fully
